“We know what we are, but not what we may be.” -William Shakespeare
- Hamlet was born into royalty. He was the young prince of Denmark born to King Hamlet and his wife Queen Gertrude. Society looks at him as someone with high power.
- Hamlet was sad and angry when his father died but even more irritated by the fact that his mother married so quickly to his Uncle Claudius. When the ghost of old Hamlet speaks to the prince, Hamlet vows vengeances in his father’s name yet has the inability to act.
- Hamlet does not know when to act on this situation. He is too conflicted internally to do anything about it. Hamlet knows he has to act on what he has learned but he still is pushing to learn more which makes him have the difficult choice to either act upon the scenario or wait to find the ultimate truth.
- Hamlet’s fall from his own greatness was his own fault as he pretends to go insane to collect information from his step father, Claudius. This is a fatal mistake as he destroyed his relationship with his mother and girlfriend, Ophelia.
- Hamlet killed Polonius thinking it was Claudius when earlier he bailed out on the opportunity he had to kill Claudius.
- Many people end up dying, including Hamlet due to Hamlet’s unnecessary actions and his inability to act.
